Katy Perry MTV Movie Awards Look

I love Katy Perry's hair and makeup here. This is the look she wore last Sunday to the MTV Movie Awards. It reminds me a bit of my Halloween '09 wig, only hers looks more brushed for some reason. Anyway, super fun, super Katy, and totally MTV. What do you think? Her dress was super short and her nails were bright yellow - how fun is that?

Oscars 2010

Sorry I couldn't post yesterday. I had enough work for two efficient adults to do in a week, but since I am neither all human nor just merely efficient, I was able to finish it in one day. Here goes my list of best and worst:


Amanda Seyfried looks perfect. I love that pleating detail on the side that gives the whole dress shape. The kind of stiff upper body of it contrasts with the delicate way the bottom half falls - just gorgeous! I also love the beading. Elizabeth Bank's dress and this one are a toss up for me, don't know which one I love more.


Sandra Bullock looks amazing! This dress was gorgeous and perfect for something like winning an Oscar. I know some people didn't like her makeup, thought her lipstick was a bit much (it was a blue red), but I thought it looked beautiful and matched her dress perfectly.

Elizabeth Banks. This was my favorite dress of the evening. It's ethereal. Her dress is Versace and looks like it was made for her. Wonderfully feminine and just lovely. Her makeup is perfect as well, I just wish she had a super sparkly diamond bracelet on to complete the look, or chandelier earrings.

Demi's dress is beautiful. As I look at it now, I realize that it's almost the same color as her skin (she is so tanned!). I wish her makeup made more of a statement....

Chalize Theron's Joan of Arc meets an English rose garden dress is silly. Those idiot roses on her boobies like hand prints call attention to an odd place and remind me of Madonna and some of her 80's outfits. What was she thinking? She always dresses so elegantly, this was an embarrassing mistake.

Sarah Jessica Parker looks stupid. Her dress is yucky and her hair is frizzy. I noticed several people presenting with frizzy hair. Either there was a huge fan backstage, or there is a nationwide shortage of anti-frizz serum. If this is a new fad, count me out.


What a ridiculous dress. Zoe Saldana is a beautiful, beautiful woman, but she seems to be wearing a sparkly top and someone else's unflattering skirt. The two halves of the dress don't go together the way bean jello is just wrong. This is hands down the ugliest dress of the evening.

The ceremony in itself was very good. I wish the songs had been performed like they always are, but because of the time difference, I appreciated the shorter version because it was really later here by the time it finished. Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin were fantastic together and all in all it was a very good show. I dislike Oscar politics and feel they snubbed Avatar because it's so successful. There is no way in hell The Hurtlocker is the Best Picture of the Year. This is a very specific category and it seems perfectly obvious they needed a woman to win this year, and a bunch more rubbish and blah, blah, blah. I feel like these fools owe us all an explanation. But it's ok, I'll be fine. Avatar is still #1 to me and we don't need a naked man to tell us that.

P.S. Once again Kristen Stewart looked itchy. She was all dressed up, but she looked itchy and icky, a little dirty - contageous dirty, not porno dirty.

Grammy Beauty

What a great look. No one can pull it off like she does, but man, can she pull it off. Hair is fantastic, dress, and makeup too. She has a great beauty team!

I was traveling over the weekend (post to come) so I missed the Grammys. I love the Grammys and I love to see what everyone's wearing. It's always out there and it's always surprising, and wonderful. I was dying to see what Lady Gaga would come up with and I was not disappointed. She wore many different looks throughout the evening and they were all out there - way out there - and glorious. After skimming through pictures online, I chose a couple that stood out to me. By the way, all the pics I got are from JustJared. Go there and look through all the Grammy shots. Awesome!

Lea Michelle. I love her and I love, love, love her dress, jewelry, hair and OMG the makeup! She looks amazing!! I would kill for cheekbones like hers.

JLo looks so, so gorgeous here! The 70's inspired hair is beautiful in its simplicity and paired with the most amazing eye makeup it is perfection. Her dress was also fantastic! While I think she may be a bit tacky herself, and for the most part quite "Jenny from the block", I give her, her stylist and hair and makeup team serious props for this ensemble. Bravo!

I hate, hate, hate Beyonce's look. Her new super blond hair and black brows look trashy and quite honestly, stupid. Her earrings are ridiculous, and I have no love for her dress. This was a hit and miss for me.

Mad Bearded Men

Last night I was watching the SAG Awards Red Carpet on E! - I had missed it, and there's nothing I love better than two hours of frivolity, shallow oohing and aahing over one dress or another, mercilessly passing judgement on the ones I think missed it completely, drooling over the jewelry the women get to wear, wishing I owned most of the shoes, and generally wasting precious time being ridiculous. Good times.

Did anyone happen to catch the shows? Well, among other things, one of the things that impressed me was the fact that everyone loves Kevin Bacon so much. What is up with that? He can't casually step into a lame plotted TV only movie without stumbling out magically dragging 15 different awards. I don't know if I'm the only one that's bothered with the fact that he generally plays twisted pervy roles - and plays them way too well for his own good. I look at him and I see the sum of all his parts - and it isn't good. Perhaps he should try playing some good guys, some comedy guys, some light-hearted, feel-good, sugar-water roles to kind of cleanse our palates of his intense, deeply disturbed, ultra skinny, druggy, mostly perverted and definetly yuck bum pirate characters he seems to gravitate towards.


On a completely unrelated note, have you noticed the cast of Mad Men lately? It seems that every time there's a picture of the men when they're not filming, they look like lumber jacks and vagrants. Firstly, I suspect they made a beard pact after filming this last season because they all have beards (as evidenced in the images displayed all over this post). Secondly, what is up with Pete's (Vincent something-or-other) hair? Could it look any worse? I think not. John Hamm, just because you can grow a Messiah beard and look like all the apostles combined, doesn't mean you should. What about a trim? This is basic grooming 101. I'm thinking these guys are so tired of being perfect every moment of the day while on set (and having to shave twice a day for some), that as soon as they're free of it, they literally let it all hang out; send their barbers to the Devil, pull out their sweats, beer guts, stained T-shirts, holey socks and just relax gillette free for as long as they possibly can.

Golden Globes Beauty Summarized

I was going to do a Golden Globes post, but I've been swamped and a bit poopy lately (that's the excuse I'm going with for not posting lately). Instead of posting myself, I'll instead refer you to a blog that has all the deets on what was used on whom and who used it.

Go to Spoiled Pretty and see for yourself. Daneen did a great job of collecting notes from different makeup artists and posting great pics. My fave beauty looks are: Kate Winslet (love the navy blue eyeliner tip), Christina Aguilera, Julianna Margulies, and Julia Roberts.

As far as dresses go, Marion Cotillard had my favorite. It was a stunning Dior that did her justice (the slit with the lace kills me). I also loved Julia Roberts' look, vintage YSL with that stunning necklace. She looked chic and comfortable - a winning combo. I hated Tina Fey's dress and thought her makeup was meh - love her, though. Loathed January Jones' dress, indifferent about the makeup. Kate Winslet was very lovely and so was Kristen Bell (although there is no 411 on her makeup). Her dress was really cute. Jennifer Garner looked great and so did Jennifer Aniston (even though I think she's a bore), Nicole Kidman's makeup and hair - whatevs. Loved Courtney Cox and wanted her earrings. Rose Byrne's dress was my runner up favorite of the night. Super, super gorgeous, although I thought Rose's makeup looked muddy - maybe it's just me. Cameron Diaz looked stupid, she usually does. BTW, what is it with Penelope Cruz and her two-toned hair? So weird. And she looks jaundice.

Emmys 2009 Beauty

I feel like commenting on the faces of the Emmys 2009. First off, NPH was très cool and I totally approve. Secondly, it looked like it was really hot and everyone's face was melting. Another thing I wanted to mention is that red lips are so last year (well, not for me, but for the Emmy Queens it looks like it is). This year it's all about the nude lippie. So, I'm thinking we're all going to have to run out and get us some lovely nude lippies pronto. MAC Blankety is in my future. Yes, If I look into my crystal ball I see Blankety as well as some pretty, pretty gloss from YSL with sparkles. Magical fairy sparkles!

Here's what I think about Mila Kunis' makeup - so friggin' gorgeous! One of my faves of the evening! I love the eyeliner. It defines her eyes and makes them pop. The color of the eyeliner along with the color of the eyeshadow bring out the green in her hazel eyes and the combination is stunning!


Loved the dress (you can't see it here, but you can look it up on Just Jared). Her makeup and hair are also beautiful. This year it's all about less is more, at least with color. She is almost completely devoid of color on the eyes and cheeks, but the subtle red lip makes up for it. It's a classy look that can be done by anyone. The key is to work the skin to luminous perfection without making it look heavy or tranny. Then apply a pop of color on the lips. Make sure to line the upper lashes and use lots of mascara.


Love, love, love the look! She looks amazing! I congratulate whoever chose her dress and especially the hair and makeup team. This is an amazing look that was done to perfection and is a good lesson on how to wear a nude lip without looking washed out or sickly.


Love 13. I bet she would look beautiful in a garbage bag, but I'm glad she chose this lovely risque number instead. Once again, you can check out her whole look on Justjared.com. Her makeup is perfect and once again we see the nude lip at its best.


Her dress and necklace are so beautiful they take my breath away. I think her pretty blue eyeshadow is fun and flirty and perfect for the look and the weather. Nude lip again.


I hate, hate, hate her makeup. Her eyes look like a ridiculous spidery mess. What is with those eyelashes? Those are individual lashes that were applied by a blind man, it seems. This is one case where the makeup actually made her look bad. She would have done better by showing up sans color. You wouldn't know it by looking at the picture, but that's Kim Kardashian. She's actually a stunning beauty in real life and as a general rule her makeup artist is a perfectionist. Her looks are always fabulous - except on this very important, momentous occasion - if you will - where he missed the mark completely. Failed miserably. Quel horreur!


Subtle smokey eye that looks good in the daylight and doesn't disappear at night. Lovely. January Jones can do no wrong. I need to find out what she's wearing on her lips. Delish!


Heidi Klum is always amazing and this was no exception. Her makeup is flawless but what I really fell in love with were her earrings! I want!


The royal blue dress with her milk white skin and fire colored hair are a combination that will not go unnoticed. Her makeup is not distracting - which is something you have to watch out for when you're working with someone like her - just a hint of color on the lips, and eyes without ever screaming "I attacked my mother's makeup drawer".

I'm afraid this picture is not at all doing her justice. It's beautiful, but on screen she was even lovelier. Her makeup artist gave her a golden goddess look that was subtle and dreamy. Her skin was perfection itself and it glowed. There was a whisper of color that had no hard lines, no pops. Everything flowed with a seamless touch of bronze sparkle and shine. Everything is very well defined, lined and powdered, but not heavy, not cakey in the least. Very, very beautiful.

He was so amazing as the host! and let me just say - HOT!

Jessica Biel, John Belushi called, he said you're late for the toga party.

Wow! Freida Pinto is just gorgeous in this Galliano that looks couture and ethnic, but ever so delicate. Great choice of color too.

Marion Cotillard looks stunning in this "evil-but-beautiful-witch" ensemble.

Someone somewhere is missing a big chunk of fabric from their curtains. Beyonce, this is not one of my favorite things.

Did you think I wouldn't put a picture of him? Ever the vampire, Robert Pattinson does not disappoint with a traditional tux, spiky hair and "blue steel" look (or is it le tigre?).

Always gorgeous, winner of the Oscar for her leading role in "The Reader", Kate Winslet once again wows us with her intelligent choice of color and all around perfectly put together look. She manages to look very classy and elegant without giving off an air of superiority.

Penelope Cruz...I generally dislike her as an actor, but I like her dress. And while I wanted to snub her, I thought it would be unfair to the dress, so that's why she's here - or better yet, the dress is.

Amanda Seyfried (Mama Mia) looks very classy and youthful at the same time. Good choice of dress because the color and the big bow keep it real and don't age her. I love, love, lover her necklace.

Evan Rachel Wood is so amazingly stunning as a beauty, but she also gives off this air of being above everyone and untouchable. While it may not work for some, it works well for her. A stuck up princess - otherworldly. She can do no wrong.

I love this picture. Who wouldn't be looking longingly and drooling over Robert Downey Jr at such close range?

Anne Hathaway's peaches and cream complexion makes her a goddess among women. Her dress is very white against her snow white skin, but because of all the sparkles, it totally works. Bavo!

Angelina's earrings are 115-carat emeralds and her ring is 65-carats. Have you ever seen such bright green emeralds before? It's hypnotizing. I'll bet you some Saudi prince has already purchased it for his wife.

Lovely. Miley Cyrus looks like a beautiful flower. Very Oscar appropriate dress.

Hubba. The jewel of the evening. Don't you just love Mickey Rourke's greasy hair and pirate gold tooth? The open shirt showing chest we don't want to see with a locket (image of his dog, by the way) makes him the anti-sexy.

Alicia Keys looks beautiful in lilac with that lovely flowing fabric and classic hair.

I'm so glad Sophia Loren is finally looking old. There's something very disconcerting about someone that old looking so young. While her body looks spectacular, her face looks totally spent, as it should be given that she's 75 yrs old. She still looks very good and younger than some people I know who are in their 50's. That being said, the dress is hideous and not at all age appropriate.

I love the color of Amy Adams dress. She looks great and the necklace is gorgeous! Possibly my fave accesory of the evening (after Angelina's super kryptonite emeralds, that is).

I didn't love Natalie Portman's dress, but I loved her makeup. It's my fave makeup of the evening so that's why she's here. See how the purple makes her hazel eyes pop? Crazy beatutiful!

The 81st Academy Awards

Last night we had an Oscar Party here at my place. To say that my place was not the ideal location for the event would be an understatement. It was one of the hottest nights of the year, because of construction there can be no AC's anywhere, and there was limited seating. Regardless of those minor details we had a blast. We all bet on each category and kept track all night long. We also kept record of our faves from the red carpet. I have to say that there were a lot less people on the red carpet this year. I wonder if they're all following Angelina's example and snubbing E! en masse?

I would have included a bunch of pictures of the gathering, but I'm not quite sure what happened with the photographer(s). Every picture is uglier than the last. There were so many unflattering pictures I couldn't find one that I felt was ok.

Since there's no photographic record I'll just tell you what we had. The theme was English tea, so we had cucumber, radish, pate and apple finger sandwiches, as well as shrimp and mango wraps. The drinks were vodka tonics and sex on the beach. Our original plan was to have iced tea (in keeping with the English tea theme), but when the boys decided to join us we had to change gears a bit in order to make them happy. That's our excuse for all the alcohol. For dessert we had a fluffy orange cake with apricot whipped cream. Yum!

Now for the highlights of the big event:

Hugh Jackman was great. He's an entertainer. A classy one. Old Hollywood glamor style. I love it! He sang and danced and was altogether terrific.

I loved that Kate Winslet won. I feel it's been long overdue.

I loved the way they had past Oscar winners come out and say something to each of the actors nominated. For the most part it was heartfelt and touching and I think it was a good way to honor everyone who was nominated.

I loved that Heath Leger won. He earned it.

I didn't care for some of the montages. They were confusing.

I didn't care for the fact that Sean Penn won. He's a tool. I wanted Brad Pitt to win. I felt he deserved it and was maybe passed over because he's not an ugly train wreck like Penn. Plus, he just got back together with his wife (she has such poor judgement), and he didn't even think to thank her. He must have thanked everyone he knew including Jorge the hotdog vendor and Marco the gardener, but he didn't thank her. He is so unworthy of the Princess Bride.

I liked the little kids from "Slumdog Millionaire". They were adorable. Little tiny kids speaking in English with a very thick Indian accent - priceless. I also liked the fact that the film took home all the Oscars. It was so unexpected and they were so grateful. They deserved it.

Some of the documentaries and short film animations that win baffle me. I don't know who judges this stuff or how it even makes it out into the public, but it just seems so inferior. I know that random members of the academy vote on the winner, but do they even watch it? Especially the short animation is just so lame. Here's the other thing: so what that they won. Do they have to televise it? We don't care - at all. It draws out the event and takes some of the charm out of it. There's always some really geeky person who goes up there and thanks everyone they ever knew. They always look very excited and energetic, but they usually have an air of they-don't-let-me-out-much.

Here's another thing I don't get: Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Aren't they almost the same thing, if not the exact same thing? Shouldn't it just be one category? I really don't get it. And it's even worse when different movies win for those categories. It's usually the same one, but last night it was two different ones. Confusing.

I totally forgot that one of my favorite moments was when Ben Stiller came on with a beard and chewing gum pretending to be Joaquin Phoenix. It was hysterical!

A SAG Awards Moment

I watched the SAG awards the other night and frankly there were no surprises. Everyone you thought would win, won. I could go into detail about all the winners and get into who was this and who was that, but are you really interested? Probably not. This is why I've decided to spare you the details and show you my fave dressed of the evening.

Most of these images are from sites like SocialiteLife. I don't think she'll mind. Her blog is good for when you feel like you need a healthy dose of frivolous or mind-numbing stupidity. It's a great Saturday morning read.


Evan Rachel Wood. She's just so, so gorgeous. Her dress is more than stunning and I love that she paired it with purple shoes and clutch. Did you know that she's Marilyn Manson's girlfriend? Yeah. He's got pretty good taste, right? Either that or Rose McGowen, Dita Von Teese and Evan Rachel Wood all have really bad taste. I'm thinking it's more likely he has evil sorcerer powers and he hypnotizes them. He casts a spell on the most gorgeous women so that they have no idea what they're doing and they're madly in love with him. Once he tires of them he releases them from their spell and they're left reeling from the after-effects and have no idea what's up or down. Dita Von Teese recently said she's into better looking men now. She must have had one hell of a shock when she woke up one morning and realized who she was married to.



January Jones. If any of you watch Mad Men you'll see that she is always picture perfect. Like a Stepford wife. She's beautiful and her choice of dress is bold and stunning. She looks like she went for an exotic "Cleopatra" style dress and it worked. She doesn't have the face of a femme fatale, she has more of an "angelic" face, but that dress is killer!


The Indian actress from Slumdog Millionaire, Freida Pinto, was stunning as well. The contrast of her sky blue dress and that ethereal fabric up against her mocha skin is amazing. Mark her face, because you can be sure we'll be seeing her a lot from now on.


Kate Winslet. I couldn't find a decent full length picture of her to show you her dress, but I think this is ok. At least you can see what color it was. Just picture it all the way to the ground and you're good to go. She is a great beauty, an English rose and I love to see her act.


This picture is not exactly a picture of my favorite dress, but it is my favorite picture. Do you see the way he's looking at her? My God! It's like she's his world. His face lights up when he sees her. It's a candid shot. The photographer wasn't trying to take a picture of them, he was focusing on the back of Angelina's dress, but what he captured on film was much, much better.
